Income Protection
This pays out a monthly tax free benefit amount following an illness or accident and payments will be made until the claimant returns to work or the plan finishes. Payments will commence after the selected deferred period and a longer deferred will help reduce the premium. Although the benefit is tax-free, it is paid as a percentage of your earned income and is aimed at replacing your net income.
Majority of employers will only pay for the short term and such cover can be used to enhance any employer benefits. If you are self-employed or run your own company, this cover can be crucial to support you in your time of need without draining the resources of your business.
Should the claimant return to work and then have either a recurring issue or a new issue, the plan holder is eligible to make another claim. There is no limit to the number of claims or the length of each claim during the term of the plan.
Various deferred periods such as 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 13weeks & 26 weeks can be selected. You can also have split deferred periods where the benefit levels kick in at different times. This can be quite useful for example if your employer pays full pay for 3 months, half pay for a further 3 months and then nothing.
This is a fantastic way of protecting your income into retirement so that your lifestyle and objectives are met in the event of incapacity.
